[edit] MECHANISM OF ACTION

Nifuroxazide is an oral nitrofuran antibiotic. Being acceptors of oxygen, nitrofurans inhibit the process of cellular respiration and biosynthesis of nucleic acids. Depending on blood concentration nitrofurans exert bacteriostatic or bactericidal effect.

Treatment of acute diarrhea presumed to be of bacterial origin in adults

Adults: usually 200 mg four times a day

Hypersensitivity to nitrofurane derivatives

[edit] PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

Nifuroxazide should not be used during pregnancy.

Breast feeding remains possible in the event of a short course of treatment.

Allergic reactions such as cutaneous rash, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic shock.
