[edit] MECHANISM OF ACTION

Indomethacin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that exhibits antipyretic and analgesic properties.

It is a nonselective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), enzymes that participate in prostaglandin synthesis from arachidonic acid. Prostaglandins act as messenger molecules in the process of inflammation.

[edit] INDICATIONS

Carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of indomethacin and other treatment options before deciding to use indomethacin.

Indomethacin has been found effective in:

  • Treatment of rheumatoid conditions, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis and painful shoulder (bursitis and/or tendinitis).
  • Treatment of acute migraine attack.
