 MECHANISM OF ACTION
Ciclopirox is a broad spectrum antifungal. It acts by chelation of polyvalent cations (Fe+3 or Al+3) resulting in the inhibition of the metal-dependent enzymes that are responsible for the degradation of peroxides (toxic metabolites) within the fungal cell.
- Topical antifungal against cutaneous candidiasis & tinea infections
- Treatment of mild to moderate onychomycosis
Nail lacquer: Should be applied once daily to the affected nail, 5 millimeters of the surrounding skin, and if possible to the nail bed and undersurface of the nail plate. each new application should be placed over the old one, and all coats removed with alcohol each week. initial improvement may take as long as six months.

 SIDE EFFECTS
Nail lacquer: most common adverse events were periungual erythema and erythema of the proximal nail fold. Other adverse events thought to be causally related included nail disorders such as shape change, irritation, ingrown toenail, and discoloration.
